Jon's Notes
College Wrestling - Final Rounds
CUW is hosting a NCAA division III
wrestling tournament this weekend.
One of the wrestling coaches
looks like John Ashcroft. Not that there is anything wrong with looking like the Honorable Mr. Ashcroft. I just thought it was interesting.
The crows & staff have warmed up now that the less skilled opponents have been eliminated. Coaches are yelling at the Referees. Athletic Trainers are cheering. Event staff are jumping up and down. It looks like humanities oldest sport can still get a crowd excited. I must admit to being fascinated; even though I am not normally a fan of martial sports.
The humanity of it is a startling contrast with football armies of players clad in plastic and looking like monsters of yore. The groans of the contestants, the cheering for the victor, and the weeping of those defeated at the last stages of the tournament all serve to remind us that these are
people. One on one. Struggling for the upper hand. No team. Just you against me.
These
people take their wrestling very seriously. They are from a different
state and still managed to fill 1/4 of the seats with their fans. I'm impressed.
Major changes
I have nearly decided to change my major to pre law. My winter course convienced me that the world needs more lawyers with a good handle on the information world. I'd like to make a difference in the area of copyright and
IP.
The whole computer science as a discipline thing is starting to get old. Plus there is the quite compelling argument that most computer related innovations have not come from computer scientists. A good example, among others, is that perl was written by a linguist.
Update: It looks like the best way to go about this is by becoming a "well rounded" individual.
I'm thinking Computer Science and Art as majors with some sort of government minor would be as well rounded as one can get.
A Case of the Wednesdays + Bump on the head
Why does everything have to come to a head on Wednesday?
It is when procrastinitics finally catches up with me. Much homework is due. Homework that I have not done because of my weird mental state.
It's odd, I've had trouble sleeping since I got a nasty bump on the head from walking into a pipe. That will teach me to read papers while I'm walking in halls with low overhead clearance.
Anyway, back to the sleep troubles, I have not been able to consistently sleep for more that three hours at a time. It's not like that will be a bad thing once I adapt to it. It just disturbs me that this happened shortly after I hit my head. Fortunately, it is also the only apparent change in my life after hitting my head.
Hopefully the school
NPs received the x-rays of my head. I should go see them today for followup. Being able to tell people that I was going to the hospital to see if there was a hole in my head was fun.
Come to think of it, my typing accuracy has decreased significantly in the past week. That's probably because I've been typing when I should be sleeping.
