Rev. Dr. Kieschnick's visit
LC-MS President Kieschnick visited
CUW last Sunday evening.
He gave a presentation and then called for questions.
Some points:
- He may be too concerned with pure numbers
- He sounds suspiciously like a Assemblies of God person back in the 90s
- He may put too much emphasis on gospel
- We are not doing enough to reach people of other religions
- He claims that proper procedure was followed in the Benke matter, and states that it was a matter of discretion
- Said that the yankee stadium prayer should have been more trinitarian
- Said that Dr. Benke did not pray with or to other gods
- Wants to find churches that output more teachers, pastors, etc. and have them tell other churches what they did to be blessed
- 82% of missions funding is designated directly from congregations
- Need to focus on regional synods instead of missionaries
- Says that LCMS is not being overrun with "corporate values" programs
- Doges question on whether he was pushing for small church consolidation
- Said that the mission and people were just as important as the message
- Stands firm on the biblical prohibition on female pastors
- Is working on creating a office of prophetess
- LCMS has more female church workers than churches that accept female pastors
- Struggles with discerning God's will
- Said that the major problem in synod is that people do not have a personal relationship with Christ
