iBook G4!
I once agan have a working laptop!
My iBook G3 died a few weeks ago. Yep, the
logic board went out
again. Fast forward to last weekend. I started moping about not having a laptop. This lead to windowshopping on Dell and Apple's online shops. The Apple laptops stayed within $50 of the Dell laptops, so I decided to stick with Apple and not try Linux on a Dell.
This decided,
Cassie & Paul, and
I went to
our local Apple Store. I talked with one of the Apple people about my old iBook and how it had died
again, and only a year after being sent in for the same problem.
He told me that they could replace the boards as they die, but there is no real fix. I think about this for a bit. I've had the G3 for three years; perhaps it is time for a new laptop. This considered, I thought back to my comparison shopping and decided to just get a
shiney new iBook G4.
Eight days have passed. I'm still happy.
Everything just works. I can play a DVD in the corner and do other things at the same time. The WiFi (AirPort) card does not drain the battery as quickly as I had feared. I'm still concerned about the ethernet port clips breaking off, but I'm rarely using wired networking (only for bulk transfers.)
