Jon's Notes

July 29, 2004
The Future of BadgerNet I had the opportunity to sit in on a WADEN meeting on the future of the BadgerNet system.
It sounds like the State of Wisconsin DOA has decided on using H.264 for the next iteration of the BadgerNet system.
Many of the meeting participants were not in favor of H.264 or the manner in which it was chosen. The video quality is lower and audio lag time is greater with H.264 than with the current compression technology.
CUW is using H.264 over the Internet with acceptable quality. Indeed, the quality is higher that what we were getting with three channel-bonded ISDN lines. I think that the quality will be good enough.
