College Wrestling - Final Rounds
CUW is hosting a NCAA division III
wrestling tournament this weekend.
One of the wrestling coaches
looks like John Ashcroft. Not that there is anything wrong with looking like the Honorable Mr. Ashcroft. I just thought it was interesting.
The crows & staff have warmed up now that the less skilled opponents have been eliminated. Coaches are yelling at the Referees. Athletic Trainers are cheering. Event staff are jumping up and down. It looks like humanities oldest sport can still get a crowd excited. I must admit to being fascinated; even though I am not normally a fan of martial sports.
The humanity of it is a startling contrast with football armies of players clad in plastic and looking like monsters of yore. The groans of the contestants, the cheering for the victor, and the weeping of those defeated at the last stages of the tournament all serve to remind us that these are
people. One on one. Struggling for the upper hand. No team. Just you against me.
These
people take their wrestling very seriously. They are from a different
state and still managed to fill 1/4 of the seats with their fans. I'm impressed.
